Zusammenfassung:	An apparatus for driving a warp beam has a continuously adjustable gear (7). Its coupling element (8) is displaced by means of an actuator (11). The actuator (11) is controlled by a computer (16) which has an input device (17) for receiving data relating to the predetermined thread feed (F) as well as to the machine, the continuously adjustable gear (7) and the beam (3), including a package size (current number of turns (wa) characterising the current package circumference (Ua), a computing part (18) and an output (19). The coupling element (8) can thereby be brought into the correct desired position even before the start of the machine. The computer can also serve as part of the control device during the operation of the machine.
