Zusammenfassung:	The invention concerns an electric iron with a sole plate (3) made of low-silicon aluminium bonded by means of a heat-resistant adhesive (7) to a block (1) consisting of a silicon-containing aluminium casting. The invention calls for the surface (8) of the sole plate to be coated with a hard, wear-resistant aluminium oxide layer (2). Since the sole plate (3) is made of low-silicon aluminium, anodic oxidation gives at the surface of the aluminium oxide layer a particularly uniform, temperature-resistant as well as corrosion- and scratch-resistant ironing surface (6) which can be produced particularly inexpensively.
