Zusammenfassung:	A method for continuously determining the density distribution in a solid material of variable homogeneity eg. cheese or sausage products prepared as a block of constant cross-section enables the block to be conveyed for sliding in amounts of constant weight without resort to a weighing machine. A lightsource (1) positioned at the side of the food conveyor transmits light energy through the product which is registered by a receiver (51) as an intensity variation dependent on the voids or irregularities (2) encountered during movement (7) to a cutting station (8). The resultant trace is computer integrated over a sufficient distance of conveyor travel to yield the required density/weight for signalling the cutter (8).
