The prodn. of quinoline-6-carboxylic acid (I) comprises oxidn. of 6-methylquinoline (II) with mol. oxygen at above 120 deg C in acetic and/or propionic acid (III) in the presence of a soluble catalyst (IV) contg. Co and/or Mn ions and bromide ions.
