If appropriate, the textile layer is provided on its downwardly facing surface, towards the ironing board, with a layer of foam or foam material. The upwardly facing layer, serving as the ironing surface, is provided with a structure of thermally changing colours. The structure of thermally changing colours gradually transforms into a colourless or transparent state if a predetermined temperature value is exceeded.
