Zusammenfassung:	A barrel (1) for a stick of writing or drawing material, for example a waxed painting crayon, retains the stick in its bore by plastically deformable tongues projected into the bore, wherein the end of the stick bears on a tongue or tongues so as to be secure against displacement under the writing pressure. The tongues are spaced to provide predetermined increments of the stick and are constituted by portions (3) of the wall of the barrel, the portions being manually deformable or bendable inwards as required.
