Zusammenfassung:	A front wheel drive motor vehicle has a transversely mounted engine (7) and gearbox (9). The engine, gearbox and front suspension system form a sub-assembly which is fastened to the vehicle by a rigid sub-frame (4). The engine is so mounted that a flange which projects forwards from the gearbox has a surface (19) which is parallel to and below a cross-member of the sub-frame (4). In the event of a crash the engine and gearbox unit is forced downwards and under the sub-frame cross-member. USE/ADVANTAGE - Safety device for a motor vehicle. In the event of a crash the engine is not forced into the passenger compartment.
