Zusammenfassung:Spirangien derivs. of formula (I) are new. X = H or Me; Y = 1-5C alkyl or 1-5C acyl; Z = OH (or salt), 1-5C alkoxyl or NH2 substd with 1-2 1-5C alkyl gps. 4 cpds. (I) are pref. e.g, Spirangien A which is of formula (I; X = H; Y = H; Z = OH; and branch is cis, trans, cis, trans, cis, from left to right). USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are effective against varous fungi, and not against bacteria. In a plate diffusion test using 10 microg (I) per leaf, inhibition zones were Pichia membranaefaciens (14mm), Rhodotorula glurinis (12mm), Schizosaccharomyces pombe (26mm), Nadsonia fulvescens (9mm), Botrytis cinerea (13mm). Rhizopus arrhizus (10mm), Trichoderma viride (13mm) and fusarium oxysporum (10mm).
