Zusammenfassung:	The movable jaw (5) is formed by a U-shaped lever (8), whose one leg (10) is pivotted on the fixed jaw (4), and the other leg (7) rests with its sloping outer surface (15) against the similarly inclined face (16) of the spanner head. The lever is held in this position by a U-shaped spring (17,18,19) which is housed in a recess below the centre section (9) of the lever. In this position the nut (12) is held firmly between the fixed jaw and the other leg of the lever. Pressure in one direction on the spanner shaft tightens this grip, while pressure in the opposite direction allows the lever to swivel downwards against the action of a spring and release its grip on the nut.
