The object of the invention is to permit the rapid and simple assembly of the numberplate despite the extremely small freedom of movement permitted by certain types of vehicle and in so doing to compensate for dimensional tolerances in such a way that numberplates with greatly varying heights can be fixed in a stable manner and the low-noise and reliable fastening of the numberplate is ensured. 2.2. This object is achieved in that the numberplate stiffening holder (1) has a covering strip (5) which is designed to be removable and which covers and simultaneously blocks a fixing device situated below it. The fixing device is designed as a closing device, which consists of closing holes (7) of a special shape with fixing keys (8) which are shaped so as to be insertable into said holes (7). 2.3. This solution is preferably applied when fastening numberplates in numberplate stiffening holders. This solution is especially suitable for vehicles in which there is an extremely small amount of space around the numberplate stiffening holder.
