Zusammenfassung:	Phosphorous-contg. bisphenol derivs. of formula (I) are new: In (I), R1 and R2 = H, halo, 1-8C alkyl, 5-6C cycloalkyl, 6-10C aryl or 7-12C aralkyl; R3-R7 = H, 1-6C alkyl, 5-6C cycloalkyl or R1-substd. aryl or R3 plus R7 are together (CXY)n; n = 2 or 3; and X and Y (same or different on each C) = H, 1-6C alkyl, 5-6C cycloalkyl or 6-10C aryl; R8 and R9 = H, 1-6C alkyl, aryl-substd. 1-4C alkyl or R1-substd. aryl; a and b = zero or 1 but not both 1. Also new are thermoplastic, aromatic polycarbonates (II) of mol. wt. at least 11000 with 2-100 mol. % (on total carbonate units), of formula (Ia). USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) produce (II) of good flow properties, high hydrolytic stability and good flame resistancy. They are suitable for making moulded objects, e.g. for coverings and glazes in electrical and building applications, and in household appliance.
