Zusammenfassung:	An i.c. engine exhaust system has an exhaust pipe incorporating a housed soot burn-off filter and, upstream of the filter, a quiescent chamber for the exhaust gas stream, the novelty being that (a) the quiescent chamber is incorporated in the housing (4) of the filter (7); and (b) the exhaust gas stream is diverted to a direction deviating from the inflow direction of the filter (7) by the exhaust pipe (1) connected to the quiescent chamber. ADVANTAGE - The exhaust gas flow velocity is reduced and pressure waves and peaks are smoothed out to improve uniformity of soot particle dispersion and improve burn-off properties and temp. uniformity of the filter, thus increasing filter service life.
