Zusammenfassung:	A method and a device are proposed for carrying out a value determination of the register difference on contours occurring in the printed image (for example letters in negative writing) by means of a colour video camera 2. The signal of the colour video camera 2 carrying the colour information is subjected to a colour separation in accordance with the printed colours occurring during printing. A contour, which has been produced by printing at least two printed colours on top of one another thus results in at least two separations in the corresponding printed colours. To determine the register difference, the offset from one part-image (separation) compared with the other part-image is now calculated. According to the device, a frame buffer 4, a colour separation computer 5, a colour separation memory 6 and an image computer 7 are provided in addition to a colour video camera 2.
