Zusammenfassung:Prodn. of lectin from the fungus Chondrilla nucla is new. USE/ADVANTAGE - The lectin may be used in pharmaceutical prods. It has a cytoprotective effect on non-infected lymphocytes and may therefore be used for treating AIDS or AIDS-related diseases. Dose is 2-20 (6-7) mg/kg for 4-8 weeks, administered orally, parenterally or rectally. The lectin, which imparts a specific colour to cells, may also be used in histology. In an example, lectin has a strong inhibitory activity on the expression of HIVp24 and p15 in infected CEM cells. Expression of the proteins is assessed by IFA. Cells incubated with 0.03 microg/ml of lectin produce 75% of p15 and 81% of p24 (100% in control cells) and cells incubated with 1 microg/ml of lectin produce 36% of p15 and 28% of p24.
