Phenolic hydroxy-contg. liq. crystalline ester or ether-amide cpds

(A) Low mol. liq. crystalline cpds. (I) which are esters and/or esteramides are of formula (1) where Ar = 6-20 C mono- or poly- nuclear gp. where any polynuclear gp. may be linked through a bond or used; R', R2 (same or different) = phenolic gp. of formulae (3)-(6) etc. where aromatic rings shown are opt substd by e.g. halogen or alkyl Y = chemical bond, divalent 1-10 C hydrocarbon gp., or -S02-; X = 0 or NH; M', M2 = -C-0, -C-NH-, -N=N, -CH=N, -CH=CH- -CC etc m = 0,1, or 2; n = 1 or 2; o = 1-4; p = 0 or 1. Compsns. are obtd by mixing (1) 85-99.9% (all pts. wt.) conventional polyamide (III) (2) 0.1-15 esp. 0.5-5 % (I) and/or (II) and opt. (3) 0.001-150%, on (1) + (2), conventional additives which can opt. already be at least partly incorporated in (III). Moulding compsns. (IV) are obtd mixing (i) at least one (III) (ii) at least one (I) and/or (II) (III) opt. additives, including, when (III) alloys are to be used, at least one polymeric alloy partner for (III) in melt, partic. in extruder, and working up conventionally. Opt. (iii) can be added separately, or as concentrate, or can be already present in (III).
