Zusammenfassung: | The lidar (1) comprises a transmitter (3) for linear-polarized radiation (12), a receiver (5) having a first receiving device which measures the intensity of the back-scattered radiation (15) from the transmitted cone of rays (12) in the polarization plane thereof and perpendicular thereto, and a second receiving device which measures the intensity of the back-scattered radiation (17) from an annular spatial region outside the transmitted cone (12), and an evaluating device (7) for evaluating the measured signals in order to determine whether a wall of fog (14) or snow or rain or a solid obstacle to visibility is present at a distance (d) to be measured. The nature of the obstacle and its distance (d) from the lidar (1) are indicated in an indicator (43a, 43b, 43c, 43d, 44). The lidar (1) according to the invention can be incorporated as a distance monitor in a motor vehicle and, in conjunction with a data processing device and a tachometer measuring the speed of the vehicle, can be used to obtain an optimum speed of the vehicle by acting on the drive and/or brake system, depending on the environmental conditions determined from the measured data. |
