On the drive unit (4) which can also be used as a hand mixer, there is provided a bypass switch (12) which is connected in series with the main switch (15) in the motor circuit of the hand mixer (4). The bypass switch (12) gets into its open position when the drive unit (4) is placed in the correct position on the baseplate (3) and an actuating element (22) constructed in the baseplate (3) thereby actuates the switch (12). Provided on the hand mixer (4) is a safety switch (13) which can be actuated by the lid (6) of the container (8), is connected electrically in parallel with the bypass switch (12) and is short-circuited by the lid (6) and thus switches on the motor circuit only when the lid (6) has correctly closed the container (8).
