Zusammenfassung:Cutting tools and materials for cutting ferrous work-pieces at high cutting speed comprise: a) a substrate based on a matrix composed of at least one selected from the group consisting of oxides, nitrides, carbides and oxinitrides of aluminum, silicon and IVa group transition metal elements in the International Periodic Table, the substrate comprising 5 to 50% by weight of SiC whiskers with respect to said substrate, the whiskers being uniformly dispersed therein; and b) one or more coating layers composed at least one of oxides, nitrides, carbides, borides and oxinitrides of at least one of aluminum, IVa and Va group elements in said Periodic Table, said coating layer being formed on the surface of said substrate to a thickness ranging from about 0.3 to about 20 mu m. r
