The new circuit arrangement is intended to avoid energy losses as far as possible and to ensure adequately fast availability of the energy which is to be stored in the electrolytic capacitor. … For this purpose, the charging voltage is taken from an auxiliary voltage source. In a further design, a transistor arranged between the electrolytic capacitor and the output terminal of the power supply is operated inversely in order to precharge the electrolytic capacitor with a basic charge. … A preferred field of application of this circuit arrangement is for supplying emergency power to microcomputer systems. ……
