Zusammenfassung: | The exhaust turbocharging of combustion engines and the super- charging with compressors on the positive displacement principle represents the state of the art. Exhaust turbochargers, mechanically driven turbochargers and compressors which work on the positive displacement principle, such as, for example, exhaust gas screw chargers and state-of-the-art screw chargers, have disadvantages.
A supercharging unit according to the invention for supercharging combustion engines is described which is composed of a compressor on the positive displacement principle (KV), coupled to the combustion engine and an exhaust gas turbine coupled to the KV. By means of this arrangement a relatively high charging pressure is generated by the KV even at low engine revolutions. At the same time the energy of the exhaust gas flow is fully utilised by the exhaust gas turbine and power transmitted to the KV. At higher revolutions the exhaust gas turbine can deliver more power than the KV needs. In this case the excess power is delivered to the combustion engine.
The supercharging unit according to the invention is suited to the supercharging of combustion engines, in particular motor vehicle engines. |
