Zusammenfassung:	2,4-Dichloro-3-methylphenol can be prepared by reacting, in a first step, 4,6-di-tert-butyl-3-methylphenol with not less than 2 mol of elemental chlorine at a temperature between the melting point of 4,6-di-tert-butyl-3-methylphenol and 150@C and, in a second step, subjecting the reaction product to a heat treatment at 110-250@C in the presence of aluminium.
