Zusammenfassung:	The present invention relates to an aqueous coating composition based on nitrocellulose which contains possibly water-dilutable film-forming binders and conventional additives and coating auxiliaries. The coating composition is obtainable by dissolving the nitrocellulose in a water-dilutable organic solvent for nitrocellulose and adding water, the water-dilutable organic solvent for nitrocellulose being present in a proportion of from 15 to 35 % by weight, the nitrocellulose in a proportion of from 5 to 40 % by weight and water in a proportion of from 35 to 70 % by weight, based on the overall weight of the coating composition. It is preferred additionally to use a latent solvent for nitrocellulose. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of the above-described aqueous coating compositions and to their use, in particular, for coating wood, sheets (foils) and paper.
