Zusammenfassung:The useful lives of the membranes in a reverse osmosis plant, and thus the availability of the plant, are greatly reduced by fouling and scaling in plants without raw water treatment. In the process according to the invention, the useful lives of the membranes in a reverse osmosis plant are considerably increased by continuously feeding the water which is to be processed to an exchanger column in which various types of ion exchangers are provided. One ion exchanger has an adsorptive action and the other has a selective action. After the water has passed through the exchanger column and been prepurified it is fed to the reverse osmosis plant where separation into the low-salt permeate and high-salt concentrate takes place.
