Means for the rain-tight covering of a facade to be renovated, or a similar building surface exposed to the weather, including floors of balconies, outside corridors and the like. Said means has a tarpaulin which consists of a material which is water-tight for this purpose, such as tent canvas, plastic sheeting or the like, and, for the renovation of such surfaces, in particular with highly moisture-sensitive plastics or the like and thus a weather-independent working method, has a sealing and retaining strip. On its rear side to be placed on the facade or a supporting wall above the renovating area, said sealing and retaining strip has, at least in areas, an elastically compliant formation which, for fastening, is provided with a series of fastening formations provided along its longitudinal direction and on which there is provided a receiving formation which runs approximately parallel to its longitudinal extent and is intended to secure the adjoining edge of the tarpaulin in a rain-tight manner.
