Sphygmomanometer

The sphygmomanometer blood comprises a pulse wave sensor (7) which responds to arterial pulse waves, an ECG signal sensor (1) and a timing device (13) which determines the time intervals between waves of a predetermined type of the ECG signal recorded by the ECG signal sensor (1), preferably the R waves of said signal, and pulse waves respectively following the R waves and recorded by the pulse wave sensor (7). A display device (15) displays as blood-pressure data information representing the duration of the time intervals determined. The sphygmomanometer need only be calibrated initially, for example with the aid of an inflatable cuff, in blood-pressure values. The inflatable cuff can be omitted for further blood-pressure measurements.
