Zusammenfassung:Letters (98) for advertising purposes are formed in each case from a longitudinal section (97) of a paper web (61) which has at least one edge strip (63; 64) with transporting holes (65; 68). This paper web (61) is cut open in the region of its centre by a separating cut into two partial paper webs (76; 77). These partial paper webs (76; 77) are either folded over against one another or are placed one above the other in parallel alignment relative to one another and joined together by means of a gluing operation. An activatable adhesive coating (69) has preferably already been applied beforehand for this purpose, which adhesive coating is activated in an activating device (73). The longitudinal sections (97) are cut off from these joined partial paper webs (76; 77) by transversely extending cuts, from which longitudinal sections the advertising letters (98) are produced by removing the edge strips (63; 64). Instead of only one paper web (61), two paper webs (61; 62) can also be used, which are joined together at least partially by means of an adhesive coating (72).
