Zusammenfassung:	A display device for motor vehicles is described which has a plurality of display elements arranged one next to the other. Each display element has a plurality of display segments which are arranged in a specific irregular configuration and can be driven in order to represent specific symbols. Here, for example the figure "1" can be represented both left-justified and right-justified on a display element. In addition, two "1" figures can be simultaneously displayed on one display element and a subsequent figure is directly represented on the adjacent display element. Spaces between individual figures are thus reduced so better legibility of the figures is ensured.
