Method of cutting a web bearing recordings, such as is used in printers or office machines, and device to carry out the method

The invention relates to a method for cutting a web, such as is used in printers or office machines, having a cutting device with a drive and a cutting knife which is rotated through a given angle for cutting the web, thereby brushes along the cutting edge with a stationary blade and then returns to the starting position. During the minimum printing and/or transport time for one line of printing, the drive of the cutting device serves for storing the energy, which is given off substantially evenly, via a transmission in a spring drive for the cutting knife, which spring drive stops the drive when a predetermined restoring force has been reached and, when it has received a triggering signal, moves the cutting knife abruptly against the blade and, on completion of the cutting operation returns the cutting knife, again abruptly, and then the build up of the restoring force inside the spring drive begins again up to and including the stoppage of the drive.
