A seat which can be adjusted by motor, in particular for motor vehicles, has attachment rails (10, 12) which are longitudinally displaceable in parallel guide rails (2) and are connected to one another and between which at least one adjustment shaft (50) which can be driven by means of an electric motor (76) via a gearing (70) and a vertical adjustment spindle (72) extends, which shaft has at least one swivel arm (56, 58) which is coupled to a sub-surface of the seat. In order to provide suspension of the gearing which has as few parts involved in the power flux as possible and in which only the forces which result from the loading of the seat are passed on as reaction forces to the other seat adjustment parts, there is provision for the gearing (70) to be suspended from the adjustment shaft (50).
