Zusammenfassung:	A numerical control apparatus is provided with a device for monitoring the useful life left in each of several tools which are arranged in a tool magazine, so that a tool whose useful life has not yet been exhausted can be selected for the machining operations when required. If there is no longer any tool of the required type which still has useful life left, a warning signal is generated in order to interrupt the machining operation so that all these tools can be replaced by new ones.
