Zusammenfassung:	In the known curtain coating process for coating lengths (5) of material, continuously moved past the coating position, with one or more liquid coating materials, the width or the strip width (b') of the coating (6') is produced by a covering (7') which is arranged immediately above the length (5) and is provided, in the region of the impingement line of the curtain (4), with at least one slit-shaped opening (15) through which the curtain (4) is applied to the length (5), and the curtain (4), at the portions of the covering (7') not provided with an opening (15), is conducted away, collected in a trap trough (12) and supplied for re-use. The covering (7'), provided with openings (15), and its arrangement make it possible to obtain, at high coating speeds, coatings which are sharply defined at the edges and which, with a construction of the openings (15) with curtain dividers (16), have virtually no edge thickenings (Fig. 2).
