Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:	An electrode for arc furnaces which consists of an upper water-cooled section of metal and a replaceable lower section of self-consuming material, which are connected by means of a screw knuckle or the like. In order to obtain signals which provide information on the presence of the wear part, at least one light-sensitive element (11) is arranged in the connecting zone (21) of the gas-cooled metal part (2) and the wear part (3). The light signal which is incident in the light-sensitive element (11) in the presence of the wear part (3) is passed in a suitable manner via an optical fibre (13) to the furnace controller which initiates safety precautions.
