Balustrade for winding stairs, in which the posts and handrail parts consist of roundwood bars, the posts are vertically aligned in laterally open recesses, arranged at equal horizontal distances, of the treads and are fixed to the treads by transverse screwing so as to be adjustable in height. The handrail parts contain at their front ends a recess surrounding the round profile of the post with approximately a quarter circle, the axis of which recess is at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the handrail part in accordance with a preset gradient. The balustrade posts fixed in the dished recesses of the treads and in identical recesses in the handrail parts are pinned and screwed to the treads and to the handrail parts.
