Method for adjusting the distance of an optical fibre from an optical transmitting or receiving element

The invention relates to a method for adjusting an optical fibre (4) to an optimum distance from an optical transmitting or receiving element (2). In this case, the optical fibre is retained in an axially displaceable fashion in a receptacle (3) which is secured after adjustment with a horizontal reference plane (7) on a likewise horizontal reference plane (6) of the housing (1) supporting the optical transmitting or receiving element. The optimum distance determined in advance by calculation or experimentally between the optical fibre end face and the reference plane of the receptacle is adjusted under a microscope whose object stage, on which the receptacle is locked, is provided with a readable height adjustment.
