Zusammenfassung:The process for the production of alkalis and titanium sulphate comprises melting red mud or a similar raw material in a reduction atmosphere together with lime and with the addition of calcium sulphate and then recovering the alkalis from the alkalis reduced to metal at a temperature of as low as about 1623 K in the form of a sublimate, after which, after separating off the iron, cooling the slag and leaching of the alumina in a manner known per se, the residue containing a high-temperature modification of perovskite CaO.TiO2 is mixed with sulphuric acid, resulting in a titanium sulphate solution.
