Zusammenfassung: | A catalytic contact oxidation process for producing sulfur trioxide from sulfur dioxide comprises passing a gas stream containing sulfur dioxide and oxygen in contact with solid, sulfur dioxide oxidation catalyst at an elevated temperature and at a superficial gas velocity of at least about 500 ft./min., preferably about 1500 to 2500 ft./min., wherein the oxidation catalyst is monolithic and has a plurality of gas passages providing a cross-sectional open area of at least about 50 percent for gas to flow therethrough with at least 50 gas flow passages per square inch of cross-sectional area. |
