Zusammenfassung:	In order to permit genuine idling operation of an internal combustion engine (2) at very low idling speed without making it difficult to start, a signal is sent to a throttling device (5) determining the intake cross-section of the engine (2), for example when engaging a gear of a transmission (8) connected to the engine (2) on the output side, in order to increase the intake cross-section to a value which is assigned to a somewhat higher speed, the starting speed.
