Zusammenfassung:	The process and apparatus according to the invention serve preferably for the automatic sewing of articles of clothing. The aim is simplicity of construction and short change-over times. The object is to sew a large range of articles having different configurations with a minimum of technical means, and in particular there is to be no need for additional guide elements in a straight seam run. According to the invention, for a curved seam run, a pricking needle as centering, means for the specific lifting off of the press foot and a blowing nozzle with an air-outflow orifice in the direction of rotation are used. The technical means according to the invention are activated and brought into the position of rest by means of the same signal.
