Machine for stuffing newspaper with inserts - has change-of-direction transfer station with lifting wire and reciprocal blade to lift upper half of folded newspaper

The newspaper section is fed from a supply hopper (20) with the main fold leading, to a delivery conveyor (24). This delivers each section for transfer one-by-one to a transport conveyor (28) which in turn transports the sections one-by-one to and past a stuffing station (44). A change-of-direction transfer station (74) is interposed between the adjacent ends of the transport conveyor and delivery conveyor. This includes an elongated stop (76) against which the main fold is positioned upon delivery from the delivery conveyor. A reciprocable blade (82) transfers a newspaper section out of the transfer station toward the transport conveyor with the main fold moving parallel to the stop. A lifter blade or wire (90) is positioned on the side of the reciprocable blade opposite the stop to commence lifting the upper half of the newspaper section to prepare it for engagement by the main opener.
