Nicotinic acid phenyl ester(s) - lower blood lipid levels of both tri:glyceride and cholesterol without needing very high doses

Esters of formula (I) are new (where R1 is a gp. of formula (a) or (b), or is (c) cumyl (d) p-chlorobenzoyl, or, if R2 is cycloalkyl or -(CH2) or R1 is (e) H; and R2 is H, halogen, 1-6C alkyl or cycloalkyl, -(CH2)n- (n=4), MeO, EtO, CF3 or NO2). (I) lower blood lipid levels and have a strong effect on both triglyceride and cholesterol levels in serum. Doses of (I) are considerably lower than the doses of nicotinic acid and ethyl 2-(p-chlorophenoxy)isobutyrate necessary, and side effects are therefore reduced to a minimum. (I) have an effect on several lipid components without needing to increase the dose. (I) can be therefore used to treat hyperlipidaemia and reduce the risk of atherosclerosis, thromboses and blockages of arteries. P-cyclohexylphenylnicotinate (Ia), o-cyclohexylphenyl-nicotinate and 2-tert.butyl-4-cyclohexyl phenylnicotinate are specifically claimed.
