In an automatic feeding device for dispensing loose feed in portions, in particular for aquaria, a storage container holding the feed and a feed-dispensing device which interacts with the said container, is controlled in predetermined time dependence and by which measured portions of feed can be dispensed through a dispensing orifice (17) are provided. In order to ensure that, while the feeding device has a simple structure which makes operation and maintenance easy, the quantity of feed dispensed is largely independent of the filling level of the storage container, the storage container is in the form of a rotatably mounted, essentially horizontally arranged drum (9) which has the dispensing orifice (17) and which can be rotated by a driving device (2), at predetermined time intervals, out of a rest position, in which the dispensing orifice (17) is secured against the emergence of feed, the feed-dispensing device (18 to 23) being controlled in a self-acting manner as a function of the rotary motion of the drum.
