Zusammenfassung:The plant includes a transformer with a sec. winding connected to >=2 consumable electrodes the bottom ends of the latter being immersed in a melt in a mould which rests on a base. Both the mould and its base are connected via rectifiers to the sec. winding of the transformer so that only d.c. flows from the mould and its base through the rectifiers to the sec. When 3 electrode holders are used with a 3-phase supply connected in delta, the mould and its base are pref. connected via min. three rectifiers to the power supply. The overall result is that a positive voltage cannot be created on the mould walls, so the life of the mould is increased and it does not contaminate the melt.
