Temp. compensated motor vehicle fuel tank level indicator - has electric resistance layer vacuum deposited on polyimide carrier tape enclosed by flexible plastics cover strips

Device for measuring the level of fuel in motor vehicle tanks with high accuracy and low energy input and which is temp. compensated includes a measuring resistance (W1) which takes the form of a layer supported by a plastics carrier tape (3). Layer (2) has high temp. coefft. of specific resistance and is connected to a source of current. Layer conducts current independently of the level of fuel in the tank and the potential drop along the resistance layer is taken as an indication of the fuel level. Carrier tape is protected on both sides by cover layers (16) supported by spacer strips (14,15) to prevent conviction losses.
