Nuclear power plant with impact-absorbing support - between safety containment and foundation esp. for withstanding earthquakes and aircraft impacts

A nuclear power plant protected against external impact or earthquake effects comprises a safety containment sphere resting on the foundation for the reactor building by means of an elastically deformable connection. Pref. an additional outer protective shell designed typically to resist aircraft impact, is connected directly to the foundation. The elastically deformable connection may comprise spring elements between the foundation and the support structure on which the safety containment sphere rests. The arrangement provides protection against effects of earthquakes, aircraft crashes and the like.
