Zusammenfassung: | A method of making billets, whereby a billet is produced by continuous casting or rolling, which billet is star-shaped in cross-section and has at least two ray members 2,3,4 disposed symmetrically relative to the central longitudinal axis of the billet; the base c of each star ray member of billet at the place of its juncture with the central portion 6 thereof is selected to be 0.72 to 2.3 of the ray member height a, the other base b being 0.5 to 1.0 of the ray member height, the lateral sides of the ray member may differ in length; the segregation zone is caused to concentrate in the central portion of the billet selecting appropriate relationship between geometric dimensions of the billet and by creating favourable conditions for producing the billet; thereafter, the ray members are severed from the central portion of the billet by means of rolls in a rolling mill, this being performed by subjecting one of the lateral sides of the ray member to the action of an appropriately grooved roll. |
