Zusammenfassung:Disclosed is the preparation of 17-hydroxysparteine by means of the oxidation of sparteine with permanganate in an aqueous acid solution. The oxidation is highly selective and produces the 17-hydroxysparteine in a high yield of more than 90%. The oxidizing agent may be readily separated from the reaction mixture after the reaction in the form of insoluble manganese ammonium phosphate.
