Absorbent prodn. for detoxification of waste gas - by hydrating alkaline earth oxide in presence of alkali or alkaline earth halide acting as accelerator

Prodn. of an absorbent, based on an alkaline earth oxide (I) contg. an alkali (ne earth) halide (II) as accelerator, for the treatment of waste gases contg. harmful constituents, involves producing a powdered dry reagent by hydration of (I) in the presence of (II), which is dispersed in one or both components for hydration. The absorbent can be produced easily, without costly drying and gives a high degree of conversion, in spite of a low (II) content. Its storage and transport properties are not impaired. It is useful for the removal of S, F2, Cl2 and their cpds. from waste gases from the chemical industry, power stations, furfances in the iron, steel and Al industries, super-phosphate plants, brickworks, clay glass and enamel works etc.
