Process for the preparation of perhalogenated diaryl carbonates by reacting phosgene with an alkali metal salt of a perhalogenated phenol in an intensively mixed two-phase mixture of an aqueous alkali metal salt solution of the perhalogenated phenol and a water-immiscible organic solvent, characterized in that a solvent is used in which the chloroformic acid perhalogen phenyl ester forming as the intermediate product remains dissolved and the perhalogenated diaryl carbonate is insoluble and a tertiary amine or a quaternary ammonium compound is used as catalyst.
