Compsn. esp. to protect trees from being eaten by wild animals - contains a quinine alkaloid as active ingredient

A compsn. to protect against damage caused by animals, esp. to deter game and in particular to protect forests, contains (a) =15 (esp. 0.5-10) wt.% alkaloids of formula (I), (where R1 is H, vinyl or ethyl, and R2 is H, methyl or OH), which are present in the bark of the cinchona (or their (in)organic salts or derivs), as the active ingredient; (b) =99.5 (pref. 85) wt.% >=1 porous inorganic and/or organic film forming substances; and opt. (c) >=1 taste enhancing substances, anti-foaming agents, non-ionic and/or anionic emulsifiers, and/or inert carriers. Used esp. for protecting young shoots of small trees and bushes from being eaten by game such as deer, in partic. during the winter months. Specifically, the compsn. containe 1 wt.% of a 50 wt.% ethanolic soln. of quinine hydrochloride, 85 wt.% of a pigmented polyvinyl acetate, and 14 wt.% water.
