R3 and R4 are H or CH2PO3H2, and R2 is H or PO3H2. (I) are prepd. e.g. by reacting the corresp. prim. amine (R3=R4=H), with HCHO and H3PO3 in ratio of at least 1:1:1.5-1:2:2.5 at high temp. (I) are chelating agents for di- and polyvalent metal ions and are useful e.g. in textile treating baths, in paper mfr. and in tanning. They have very high solubility in water and good stability to hydrolysis permitting use at 100 degrees C. |
